Airline business cargo dependence is clear

Economic activity in countries hit by the spread of the novel coronavirus is returning to recovery as vaccines become widespread.
As society faces major transformation, entrepreneurs are starting to act with an eye on new business opportunities.
Abundant investment money inflows are also fueling more startups.

・Global companies are issuing ESG (environment, social, and governance) bonds in greater numbers.
Issuance in 2021 totaled $256.8 billion (about 28 trillion yen), a 3.4-fold increase from the first six months of 2020.
・The Digital Agency, which will launch in September, is expected to use various corporate data to accelerate digital transformation (DX) and reflect policies quickly.
There is also expectation that it will contribute to reforms in government statistics.
For companies, there are advantages to using data collected by the government for their business.
・The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games announced on the 26th that all about 70,000 tournament volunteers are expected to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.
They aim to vaccinate all volunteers to ensure safe Games operations.

・The number of individuals participating in defined contribution pension plans managed by individuals themselves is increasing.
As of the end of March 2021, the total number of enrollees reached about 9.41 million, surpassing defined benefit pension plans managed by corporations for the first time.
Tax incentives for contributions have expanded the base.
Investment products remain dominated by time deposits, and the shift from saving to investing is still mid-course.
・Israeli military officials revealed in May that AI (artificial intelligence) was “used across the entire operation for the first time” in the Gaza conflict.
AI was used to intercept rockets and identify attack targets.
・With the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s market restructuring, the standard date to determine new segments is approaching at the end of June, as companies race to be admitted to the most stringent “Prime Market.”
Movements to make it easier for investors by having major shareholders offload treasury stock, and other steps toward meeting the standards, are expanding.
Prime is expected to be a narrower gate than the First Section of the TSE.
A sense of urgency that money cannot be attracted unless they enter is behind this.
・Cargo dependence in the aviation business becomes more evident.
While domestic demand for passengers recovers slowly, cargo volumes and rates continue to rise due to shifts from maritime shipping caused by a global container shortage.
ANA HD [End of day price 2,698.5 yen] Expanding dedicated flight destinations. In the fiscal year ending March 2021, international cargo sales rose about 60% from the previous year to 160.5 billion yen, a record high.
This fiscal year plans a further 20% increase. Consolidated operating profit is expected to be 28 billion yen in the black (previous year a loss of 464.7 billion yen).
Japan Airlines (JAL) [End of day price 2,477 yen] Freight and mail business sales for the year ending March 2021 rose 40% from the previous year to 128.8 billion yen, a post-listing high.
・Seven & i Holdings [End of day price 5,033 yen] On the 26th, announced that the FTC’s consent order for acquiring the U.S. gas-station-adjacent convenience chain Speedway has been approved.
With a path paved for more than 2 trillion yen in big acquisitions, efforts to expand overseas businesses, which account for about 40% of total, will accelerate.
・On the 26th, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation announced that there is a recall plan from Tesla, and implementation will begin on the same day.
Malfunctions in autonomous driving systems; the target is about 286,000 electric vehicles sold in China since 2019, representing over 90% of sales in that period.
Tesla says it will fix the issues by remote software updates at no cost.
