The Nikkei Stock Average rose for the fifth consecutive trading day.
In the morning, following the U.S. stock decline on the 25th, selling led the market lower, opening at 28,396 yen, down 157 yen from the previous day.
Afterward, it rebounded, reaching as high as 28,710 yen (up 156 yen) at one point.
After the first pass, it came under selling pressure, but recovered toward the close of the afternoon session.
The Mothers Index rose for the second straight day.
The buy-favored, firm tone continued, with broad-based buying in the Mothers market.
