The Nikkei Stock Average rose slightly for the third consecutive day.
In the morning, selling dominated, opening at 28,212 yen (down 105 yen from last Friday).
After the first round, there was persistent buying in stock index futures, briefly rising to 28,584 yen (up 266 yen).
Thereafter, it struggled to continue the uptrend due to selling pressure.
Although the afternoon session began with buying, selling gradually pushed the gains down.
It stayed flat as selling pressure capped the gains toward the close.
The Mothers Index fell for the first time in five days.
