Mothers are at a high level
Nikkei stock average fell sharply.
In the morning, following declines in U.S. stocks on the 18th, selling was dominant at the open.
At one point, it fell to 27,842 yen (down 563 yen from the previous close).
After the initial settlement, it steadied and retraced to as high as 28,216 yen (down 190 yen), but then the declines widened.
In the afternoon session, during the lunch break, U.S. stock index futures outside regular trading hours trended soft, starting weak.
Along with the subsequent weakness in U.S. stock futures, it softened again, briefly touching 27,842 yen (down 563 yen) and then narrowed the losses toward the close.
The Mothers Index rebounded after a weak open, reaching 1,092 points (up 23 points), but the gains narrowed amid softness in the TSE Prime Market.
In the second session, there were times when the gains narrowed, but toward the close buying emerged, finishing at a high around 1,093 points.
