25-day moving average crosses above
The Nikkei Stock Average rose for the third consecutive day.
In the morning, following the results of the US April employment report, expectations that US monetary easing would continue supported a rise in US stocks from the previous close, attracting buying.
There were moments of slight weakness just after the opening, but it quickly reversed.
During the trading session, it reached its highest level since April 19 (high 29,808 yen).
Overseas stock index futures in the US were also strong, helping push up the Nikkei index,
and buying of stock index futures broadened the gains, reaching as high as 29,685 yen (up 327 yen from the previous close).
In the afternoon session, the gain narrowed at the start.
Although solid, profit-taking selling limited the upside, giving a heavy feel to the price action.
The index recovered the psychologically important 29,500 mark and the 25-day moving average was barely surpassed.
