Small rebound
Nikkei 225 index rose slightly after a small rebound.
In the morning, selling was ahead, but ongoing buying in stock index futures turned it into a rise.
At one point it was up 166 yen from the previous day, reaching 29,787 yen, but the gains narrowed.
The Mothers Index remained near its low.
