Weekend continued to rise
Nikkei stock average sharply extended its gains.
In the morning, following the broad gains of the three major U.S. indices at the start of the day, buying led the market.
There was even a moment when it rose to 29,840 yen (up 451 yen from the previous day).
However, after the initial rally, profit-taking pressure capped gains, and the index paused toward the midday close.
In the afternoon, prices inched higher and reached 29,869 yen (up 480 yen from the previous day).
The Mothers Index also rose for the fourth consecutive day but remained largely flat.
Towards the close, the gains expanded and finished in the higher price range.
The afternoon session also traded mainly in the high-price range.
