The Nikkei Stock Average started lower on the local market on the 30th, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell for the fourth straight day and the Nasdaq Composite also declined, leading to widespread selling.
At one point it was 29,165 yen, down 267 yen from the previous day, but it held its losses.
The Mothers Index opened slightly lower, then turned slightly positive.
