Even if it hesitates to drop...
The Nikkei Stock Average fell for the fourth straight session but remained broadly flat due to dividends, effectively continuing its streak for four days.
In the morning, it softened as the March-end dividend payout (about 180 yen) weighed on the market.
However, supported by expectations of futures buying for dividend reinvestment, the index rose with gains led by high-contribution stocks,
and at one point reached 29,478 yen (up 93 yen from the previous close).
Thereafter it slipped to 29,283 yen (down 100 yen), but the decline was contained.
The Mothers Index showed almost no room for a rebound.
