Defense and offense of the 75-day line
Nikkei Stock Average rebounded sharply for the first time in five days.
It had fallen for four straight days, and in response to the roughly 1,811 yen decline (about 6.0%), buying emerged chasing a rebound.
Later, aided by the higher stock index futures in after-hours trading in the United States, it moved higher steadily.
In the afternoon session, there were occasions where gains narrowed, but it maintained a generally steady upward trend, hitting a high of 28,821 yen (up 416 yen) at one point.
The Mothers Index was almost flat, continuing its five-day decline.
From being down as much as 2.2%, it recovered to nearly unchanged.
