Hello everyone, this is Okachan-man. Welcome to Okachan-man's "This Week's Points of Focus" video. Here are the points of focus for this week: Powell's congressional testimony, the coronavirus, and important indicators and key remarks.
First, Powell's congressional testimony. This is a semi-annual testimony. Wednesday the 12th is the House hearing, and Thursday the 13th is the Senate hearing. Both start at 0:00, so it’s more like late on the 11th at 24:00 and on the 12th at 24:00. For this testimony, a script may be released about 30 minutes to an hour beforehand, so once the script is released, I think we need to act about an hour prior. I'm watching for topics like hidden QE and the economic impact of the coronavirus, as well as whether there will be a rate cut later this year.
Regarding the coronavirus, risk-off had already been priced in for now, but if infections spread further, risk-off could widen again. So I think keeping an eye on stock prices will be important.
The third point is important indicators and key remarks. This week there are many significant indicators and key remarks planned. Among them, the policy rate decision in New Zealand is of particular interest. Australia’s policy rate was left unchanged last week, but given the geopolitical similarities, I’m curious about what New Zealand will announce and what will be said at the press conference. Both events are scheduled for Wednesday the 12th at 10:00 and 11:00. For other important indicators and remarks, please check the blog.
We’re focusing on these areas this week. Policy rate announcements and remarks, especially Powell’s congressional testimony, can shift trends, so I think it’s best to observe carefully and approach trading this week with that in mind.
Now, let's do our best this week as well. This was Okachan-man.
