Hello everyone, this is Okachan-man. For this week's "Okachan-man's points of focus" video, these are the items I highlighted. First, the Bank of England monetary policy decision, Super Thursday, second, the FOMC, and third, the UK Brexit deadline, so the first point of this week is the Bank of England.
The policy rate decision is scheduled for January 30 at 21:00, and Super Thursday, where the Inflation Report is released at the same time, so there is a high likelihood of a policy change. This time, whether it will be a cut or hold, holding seems slightly more probable. But the probability is about 50-50, so I think either could move markets. Naturally, the Governor Carney's press conference afterward is also notable.
The second item, the FOMC, is scheduled for January 30 at 04:00. I think the probability of a hold is high, but what will be touched upon in the press conference and the statement, and when the hidden QE ends, is what to watch.
The third item, the UK Brexit deadline, is January 31. By the end of this month, the UK will leave the EU. So after this, it will move to the transition period, and I don't think there will be major changes, but since it's a historic day, I think it's worth watching carefully.
Other implications this week include important indicators GDP, and in Europe the HICP, CPI, etc., are scheduled. Since both are provisional, they may diverge from expectations and cause big movements, so I think it's important to be mindful of that.
Additionally, I will be watching whether the risk-off trend from coronavirus and other factors continues this week. For more details, please also read the blog.
Let's do our best this week as well. This was Okachan-man.
