Hello everyone, this is Oka-chan Man. This is a video explaining the key points of this week in one minute, and here are the points of focus for this week. First point is the Christmas holiday, and second point is the year-end and New Year holidays.
First, about the Christmas holiday: this week, only Monday is a normal trading day, Tuesday the 24th has some shortened trading, and the US bond and stock markets are also trading shortened. And on the 25th, it’s a Christian country, many markets will be closed. Then on the 26th is Boxing Day, and in some countries markets are closed, so 24, 25, 26 will see a substantial decrease in trading volume. And then on the 27th, Friday, there will also be low trading volume, though not completely zero.
Moving on to the second point, the year-end and New Year holidays: next week, after the Christmas holidays, we will head directly into year-end, so trading volume is not expected to be high. Given this, we should be especially careful about flash crashes. When volumes are low and news breaks, a flash crash like in January this year could happen. It’s not certain whether it will happen, but I think it should be managed as a risk. Also, the difference between Japan and overseas: Japan tends to close for year-end and New Year, while overseas many markets take a proper holiday from the Christmas holidays through year-end and start taking positions again right after the new year, which may be a difference from Japan. So I think we should align with overseas practice to do our best in that regard.
This year is almost over; I think trading is almost impossible going forward. Considering risk management, I’d rather spend time planning strategies for next year rather than trading.
Thank you very much for this year as well. Have a Happy New Year. This was Oka-chan Man.
