Hello everyone, this is Okachanman. This is a video titled “What to watch this week in one minute,” where I list the three points to watch this week. The first point is the US-China trade war. The second point is the British Parliament. The third point is statements from key figures.
First, regarding the US-China trade war: since September 1, the fourth round of tariffs on China has started. With this fourth round of additional tariffs in effect, it’s also being watched whether trade talks will continue this week. The focus is on whether additional tariffs or further sanctions, such as withdrawal of American companies, will come out.
Second, the British Parliament: it has been announced that Parliament will be in recess until October 14. However, it is not entirely closed; Parliament will be in session for a few days this week. So the question is whether a motion of no confidence in the government or a motion to prevent a no-deal Brexit will be submitted during that time.
Third, statements from key figures: as this week ends and we move into the blackout period before the FOMC, statements from Fed officials and FOMC members will be watched closely. Among them, Chairman Powell’s speech is scheduled for 6th at 25:30 (UTC? local time) and early morning of the 7th, around 1:30. Since the content concerns the economic outlook and monetary policy, it’s expected to draw a lot of attention.
The schedule of key statements, along with a large number of economic indicators this week as it is the early part of the month, are all planned. I’ve summarized the event schedule on the blog, so please take a look there.
From this week, summer vacation is over and market liquidity should return, so I think it’ll be lively. I plan to check key figures and economic indicators and capture those movements properly. Let’s do our best this week as well. This was Okachanman.
