So, why do these differences occur?
This time, I will organize the differences between demo and real accounts.
1. Differences in trading environment
Demo accounts are merely "virtual trading" and are a simulation environment provided by brokers.
They use actual market data, but orders and executions are purely simulated.
On the other hand, real accounts involve actual order placement and execution in the market.
Therefore, differences such as the following occur.
Slippage → frequent in real
Spread fluctuation → demo is fixed, real is dynamic
Order rejection (requotes) → occurs in real
2. Mental differences
Demo accounts trade with "virtual money," so there’s no pain from losses.
Real accounts involve "your own money," so emotions inevitably affect you.
Demo → can calmly cut losses
Real → hesitates to cut losses, may hold on
This "mental gap" is one of the major factors that makes demo and real results diverge.
3. Differences in EA operation
Even when using EA (automatic trading), behavior can differ between demo and real.
Demo → executions are smooth → appears high win rate
Real → slippage and wider spreads → earnings decrease
Especially scalping EAs or multi-position EAs tend to show larger differences in real environments.
Therefore, even if a strategy is performing well in demo, it does not guarantee the same results in real.
4. How to use
In conclusion, demo and real accounts have different roles.
Demo → check EA operation, practice, test strategies
Real → actual operation (start with small lots recommended)
First, get used to it in demo, then move to real.
And when you move to real, recognize that "it’s different from demo" and keep lots small to observe.
Summary
Demo is "simulation"; real is "the actual market"
Demo environment and mentality are more forgiving
EA results can differ between demo and real
Use demo for practice and real for real trading
To use EA effectively, you must avoid overtrusting demo results and optimize for real trading.
