Encouraging purchases of products and services through blogs
In this magazine, Mr. Oohira, who is serializing “Cryptocurrency News,” engages in affiliate marketing as a side job. Simply put, this involves writing reviews of products or services on a blog, placing advertisements, and earning a portion of sales when readers purchase the products or use the services through those ads. Naturally, the more buyers or users a product or service has, the higher the reward. Therefore, the key to increasing revenue is attracting people to the blog where the ads are placed.
“You can create blog posts, place ads appropriate to the content, and aim for rewards by introducing visitors. For ads, you can contract with companies that operate ASP (affiliate service providers connecting affiliates with advertisers), and place the ads those companies handle. For investment-related ads, rewards are typically about 5,000 to 10,000 yen per lead for things like opening a securities account.”
High ad unit prices are also a charm of the investment genre
Mr. Oohira has created several investment-specialized sites (FX, stocks, cryptocurrency, etc.) and writes about his investment experiences on his blogs. He started this blog to leverage his investment experience, and another reason is that investment ads tend to have high unit prices.
Incidentally, when running the blog, he focuses mainly on the following four points:
- Write easy-to-understand articles that are valuable to anyone, including beginners
- Answer visitors’ questions (conceptual or consulting-style)
- Interact with ASPs to convey better information
- Interact with companies directly advertising to write more concrete content
By diligently doing these, he formed connections with various people and found his life becoming richer. He realized that the connections with people he could build on his own—things he couldn’t have achieved as a company employee—were extremely valuable.
Mr. Oohira had previously engaged in automated FX trading as part of asset management and opened a blog about it in 2015. As blog traffic increased and readers could interact, an ASP representative contacted him, and he was able to arrange direct discussions with the advertising companies.
“Being able to hear directly from the representatives about the automated trading software and users’ opinions is very valuable. By gaining knowledge and information about automated trading and collecting user voices, I’ve been able to provide higher-quality articles.”
