1. Do not read the sales page text

First, I hardly read the sales page text. There is a reason for this.

Written text tends to be heavily subjective and biased toward what the seller wants to emphasize.

So what should you look at?

Forward performance

Forward trade history

Backtests

I judge the quality of an EA by these three things.

In other words, “Is the forward performance following the backtest?”

And “Is the backtest reliable?” These two points are the key in choosing an EA.

3. If forward performance is just a stroke of luck, evaluate with backtests

Even if forward results look good, I verify whether it’s a fluke by examining the backtest.

By analyzing whether the backtest results are stable, which market conditions the logic performs well in, and when it underperforms,

you can predict long-term EA performance.

4. Quantified data is the most important

An EA’s performance can be verified as quantified data through backtests and forwards.

How you use these objective numbers is the most important point in choosing an EA.

5. Risk management should also be objective

When choosing an EA, risk management should be calculated objectively as well.

It’s important to calculate required capital, maximum drawdown, lot size, etc., and operate with a clear understanding of risk.
