Hello, I’m FX automated trading EA developer Reiwa’s Double-E.
Today I will discuss a common opinion seen on SNS and elsewhere“I won’t use an EA that gets stopped out (loses all)”;
this is the topic.
First, a stop-out is when the margin maintenance ratio of a FX account falls below a certain level,
and positions are forcibly liquidated.
Specifically, when the margin maintenance ratio falls below 100%, positions are often automatically closed.
Conclusion: A priori assumption is operation without stop-outs
In short, if you properly select “EA” and manage risk, stop-outs hardly occur.
In other words, to say “I won’t use an EA that gets stopped out” is natural.
To prevent stop-outs, thorough risk management before starting operation is most important.
Stop-outs are a matter of how you use it
When stop-outs occur, I believe it’s often not because of the EA itself, but because of how it is used.
For example, possible causes include:
・Using an overlot (position size too large relative to required margin)
・Using an EA that does not place stop-losses (especially many cases of being driven to stop-out by gold grid Ea)
・Lacking proper risk management (not performing appropriate risk management relative to funds)
If stop-out occurs due to these causes,
it’s less an EA problem and more a fundamental issue with operating method and risk management.
Stop-outs can be avoided
Whether or not stop-outs occur is largely determined even before starting EA operation.
If risk management is thorough before operation, stop-outs can be avoided.
Therefore, from the selection of EAs, think carefully about risk management, and perform proper risk calculations when operating.
