Today I will talk about **“Reviewing an EA portfolio”**.

When operating EAs, we inevitably want to gather only the little winners.

Especially those with good performance or EAs that temporarily generated explosive profits are often added to the portfolio.

However, like in baseball, it is not enough to lineup only the fourth batters and expect to win.

A team needs players with different roles, and a balanced lineup makes a strong team.

The EA portfolio is the same.

Portfolio Role Allocation

In a baseball team there are players with different roles: a leadoff hitter with high on-base percentage, a second batter good at sacrifice, and a power-hitting fourth batter,

each with their own role, who work together toward overall victory.

If we apply this to an EA portfolio, we can think of it as follows.

High on-base percentage hitters = EAs that consistently profit (steady scalping-type)

Hit the next base = EAs that accumulate small profits while limiting losses

Opportunity-creating hitters = EAs strong in certain market environments (trend-following)

RBI hitters = EAs aiming for big profits with small losses (buying on dips, selling on rallies)

Surprising home run hitters = EAs seeking large profits in one shot (trend-following)

By balancing these, you can avoid the risk that all EAs lose in the same market.

For example, in a sideways market where trend-following EAs cannot profit, scalping EAs might.

High risk when all EAs are of the same type

If you only include EAs of the same type (for example, all trend-following) in the portfolio,

there is a high risk that when the market suddenly reverses from trend, all EAs incur losses at the same time.

In baseball, a team of all home run hitters might score a lot at once, but

they may strike out often and miss scoring opportunities.

Portfolio Balance is Important

In short, combining different types of EAs is important for long-term stable profits.

Scalping EAs aiming for short-term gains

Trend-following EAs capturing trends in the long term

EAs that steadily accumulate small profits by counter-trend strategies

EAs that produce stable performance while controlling risk

By combining these well, you can aim for profits with minimized risk in any market condition.

Summary

When reviewing an EA portfolio, it is important to build it with balance in mind.

Just as a “lineup with four fourth batters” cannot win, a portfolio with the same logic across EAs will have skewed risk.

Incorporate different types of EAs into the portfolio and aim for stable operation.
