In FX, even if discretionary trading doesn’t go well,
it’s possible to succeed with EA operations.
Why is that?
Because discretionary trading and EA trading are completely different.

To illustrate,
in discretionary trading, for each trade you decide
the take-profit and stop-loss levels.
In that case, the pip value varies trade by trade.
On the other hand, in EA trading,
generally, take-profit and stop-loss pips are fixed,
and they are pips determined by long-term historical testing.

From there, risk management methods change.

In discretionary trading, typically,
you determine lot size based on what percentage of funds is at stop loss,
whereas in EA trading, the stop loss is predefined,
and you decide the lot size by considering the maximum drawdown from backtests
and the required margin.
Those are the differences, I think.

As risk management methods change,
the method of capital allocation and investment policy also change.
Also,
in discretionary trading, handling multiple strategies at once,
holding multiple positions simultaneously,
and comprehensive position control can be quite troublesome or difficult.
Or perhaps manage positions holistically.
In contrast, with EA trading,
you can simply paste multiple types of EAs onto charts,
and your performance will reflect that.
Originally, if you compare to sports, such as baseball,
discretionary trading is the trader as the athlete,
EA trading is the person handling the EA as the coach,
which is a perspective as well,
even in professional baseball players or coaches,
a famous player does not always become a famous coach.
So even if discretionary trading fails, you may succeed with EA trading.
After all, people have different traits,
and when considering growth of assets in the first place,
either discretionary or EA trading can be fine.
Or you may master both,
and I think it’s best to choose the method that suits you.
