2/10★Sometimes I borrow the power of ChatGPT, number 20
FX automated trading, EA developersReiwa’s Double E is.
Since last year, I have been writing this series aiming for a daily post.
Probably I have continued for almost a year now!
If you read what I have written so far,
you will surely move closer to better EA operation, I dare say.
Also, there are times I want to take a short break,
so I will continue posting with the help of ChatGPT’s power.
From time to time, I will post irregularly as in the past.
Quality management experience beneficial to EA development – Lessons with Mr. K
Hello, I am the Reiwa’s Double-E, an EA developer.
This time, I would like to briefly reflect on my experience when I worked in the quality control department of a factory. At that time, I ranked at the top in the factory in quality control certification and analyzed a large amount of data, gaining valuable experience. And I feel that experience greatly benefits my current work as an EA developer.
In particular, interactions with my boss at the time, Mr. K, remain a great asset even now. Learning the importance of thinking for oneself and deciding while moving between quality control perspectives and production perspectives.
Conflict between Quality Control and Production – The power to think and decide for oneself
The job of the quality control department is “to protect quality.” On the other hand, the production department’s top priority is “to meet production schedules.” These two departments often clash. If there is a possibility of quality problems, I would go to the production site and discuss whether to halt production.
Back then, as someone involved in factory quality control, I was routinely asked, “Is it okay to stop production to protect quality? If production is delayed, can you take responsibility?” However, my supervisor at that time did not issue directives, so I had no choice but to talk with the top person on the site and arrive at an answer myself.
As a result, I developed the ability to think for myself and determine which option was most realistic and effective. Fortunately, the person at the very top of the production site (whom I will call Mr. K) was someone I still greatly respect.
Lessons from Mr. K – Don’t rely solely on data
One of the lessons I learned from Mr. K is a rule: **“Don’t rely too much on data alone.”** One day, when I brought data indicating possible defects to Mr. K, he said the following.
“Data is data after all. It can be far from real conditions on the ground. It’s fine to form hypotheses based on data, but clinging to it too much can move you away from the true cause.”
This word left a deep impression on me and taught me not to swallow data blindly, but to properly observe the real situation.
Lesson for EA development – Don’t cling to backtests too much
This experience has greatly influenced my current EA development. In EA development, we judge the quality of logic based on backtests using historical data. However, based on Mr. K’s teaching, I strongly feel it is important not to rely solely on backtests.
Backtests are only a rough guide, and past data does not perfectly fit future markets. By clinging to past data, you can inadvertently introduce a bias against real-time market movements.
Therefore, it is important to continuously verify performance in real forward testing and in actual trading environments while optimizing the EA.
Having 20–30 coping strategies – A realistic approach
Mr. K said that when a problem seems likely to occur or has occurred, there are 20–30 possible countermeasures. Selecting realistically doable ones and solving problems by elimination has a big influence on me still today.
In EA development as well, practical approaches are required for optimizing trading logic and fixing issues. Rather than pursuing an ideal logic alone, I constantly consider whether it adapts to current market conditions and whether it can operate stably with reproducibility.
Finally – Never stop learning
My exchanges with Mr. K were very learning-intensive for me. Many lessons are applied to my current EA development work. Do not cling too much to data, take realistic approaches, and always stay flexible with many options.
These are still the principles I value when developing EAs.
If you face difficulties in FX or EA operation, please remember these lessons. Do not be trapped by data or theory alone; observe reality closely and respond flexibly to succeed.
Then please continue to have a good trading life!

【How to choose an EA】
So, when you think you can operate an EA,
you may worry, “I don’t know which EA will win… I don’t want to lose….”
Therefore, Reiwa’s Double-E will
“to some extent determine good or bad through backtesting,”
in the following series of articles.

Forward testing is important, but
backtesting backs it up.
Backtesting duration is often longer than forward testing, and
whether you happen to win in forward testing can be inferred to some extent by mastering backtest evaluation methods.
