To begin with
EA developers assess the quality of an EA by
checking it with “backtests.”
Therefore, as a user
to “discern the quality of an EA,”
you need the “backtest discernment skills.”
With that in mind, this series
will describe “how to find winning EAs from backtests.”
【About currency pairs】
Regarding currency pairs in backtests,
the major pairs, as is obvious,
USD/JPY
EUR/USD
have low spreads,
and since many traders trade them,
they are relatively easy for technicals to work on.
In other words, reproducibility is likely to be higher.
Next would be GBP/USD and GBP/JPY.
Then EUR/JPY.
Occasionally AUD/JPY.
Basically,
centered on USD/JPY and EUR/USD,
compared to other dollar-cross pairs
OthersCross JPY pairs tend to be “driven without agency”
in this image,
and it is difficult to capture an edge technically.
However,
in the case of GBP/JPY,
even if it is said to be “driven without agency,”
the rate itself is large,
so the pip moves you can ride are large,
making trend-following easier to workI think.
Also,
AUD/CAD and AUD/NZD share a trait of being commodity-exporting nations with rich resources,
and because the range between all-time high and low is narrow,
counter-trend styles can be easier to implement as EAsin some cases,
but since they are minor currency pairs,
their morning spreads widen significantly,
and worst case you can get stopped out.
So,
in that aspect, backtests can diverge from real trading.
For morning scalping, you must apply appropriate handling.
Besides, personally,
EUR/GBP, EUR/AUD, and AUD/USD
are EAs that are hard to create,
so if someone makes them and posts on GoGoJungle, I’ll buy them, lol
Oh, and CHF-related pairs tend to be pegged or broken away from it,
and there is frequent intervention, so spreads are wide,
so I’ll buy EAs from those who can make them and win reliably, lol
