Walt Disney Pictures, a massive media company, recently announced that they were threatened by a hacker group seeking Bitcoin. They claim the group demanded Bitcoin in exchange for not leaking an as-yet unnamed Disney film before its official release date.

The hacker group threatened to release five minutes of the stolen film if the demand for a large payment in Bitcoin was not met, followed by a 20-minute cut released later.

Considering the recent incidents around the world, Disney took the threat seriously, but after a thorough investigation, it became clear that the threat was a hacker's bluff, said Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO.

No security breach has been found to corroborate the anonymous group's claims. Needless to say, no one pays Bitcoin for a ransomware bluff.
