When I first started living in the United States, there was something that surprised me greatly. The Americans around me seemed to drink coffee in such enormous quantities that I wondered how many cups they consume every day. However, when I looked into it (Image ①), I found that the country with the highest per-capita coffee consumption in the world is Luxembourg, consuming 2,884 cups. This translates to about 8 cups per person per day. The United States, far from top, ranks 20th, with a per-person yearly consumption of 411 cups.
By the way, Japan ranks 30th, with a per-person yearly consumption of 340 cups. On a personal note, my breakfast at home is small pancakes and coffee (at the club lounge, breakfast is Danish, cut fruit, and coffee). Outside the home, to avoid upsetting my stomach, I try to drink tea (tea bags, so not very tasty at all, but I’ve grown accustomed to the flavor).
