【Fujitomi】Nikkei Stock Average slight decline
The Nikkei Stock Average closed slightly lower, ending at 20,170.82 yen, down 6.46 yen (0.03%) from the previous close. The early session started with selling amid concerns about a stronger yen and weaker dollar, but short-covering by traders and buying by domestic institutions helped maintain a solid holding, despite the yen’s strength.
The TOPIX fell for the first time in three trading days, finishing at 1,609.97, down 2.23 points (0.14%) from Friday. The trading value on the TSE Prime Market was 2.3784 trillion yen, and the trading volume was 1.64811 billion shares. Buying of Japanese-style indices toward the close flowed in, with about 100,000 shares traded per issue, and roughly 200 billion yen of turnover expanded in the final minute before the close. The number of declining issues on the TSE Prime Market was 1,070, rising issues 829, and unchanged 118.
