Ethereum, Holding Back Upgrades

In 2020, the cryptocurrency (crypto asset) attracting significant attention besides Bitcoin is “Ethereum.” Ethereum is the second-largest by cryptocurrency market capitalization after Bitcoin, with 3.8 trillion yen in transactions as of July 2020 (Image ①). While Bitcoin has been attracting attention as a safe asset in recent years, Ethereum offers not only cryptocurrency functionality but also a system called smart contracts that automates contracts. Therefore, perspectives on Bitcoin and Ethereum differ. Investors who like Ethereum focus on the social practicality and adoption of Ethereum’s system.
