Brazil to Experimentally Adopt Bitcoin-Based Real Estate Registry Solution
Ubitquity LLC recently launched an experimental project in Brazil to register property ownership on the blockchain. The Delaware-based startup Ubitquity LLC operates a platform that uses the Colored Coins protocol developed by Colu to secure the land registry.Brazil’s Real Estate Registry plans to abolish paper-based registries and move entirely to computer-based record management. Reasons include easier access, improved accuracy, and high scalability and transparency, among other factors.
All real estate transactions in Brazil are to be registered through the Cartório de Registro de Imóveis (Real Estate Registry Office). While the process is overseen by the government, they are offering private companies exclusive contracts for registry management.
“Through this partnership, we can demonstrate to government municipalities the benefits and impact of using a blockchain-based registry.”
— Nathan Wosnack, Founder and CEO of Ubitquity LLC
Since September 2015, Ubitquity has been developing a platform for real estate. Their Software as a Service (SaaS) platform enables the real estate industry and government departments to record and utilize public registries. Blockchain solutions address several use cases, from ownership registration to tracing counterfeiting.
