[Regret of men over 60 is number 1] I should have made that thing cleaner.
Hello, this is Shimoyama.
If I had kept it this way, it would be different
If I had done that…
As long as a person lives
there are one or two irreparable regrets, after all
Irreparable regrets
should be avoided as much as possible, right?
How can we avoid regrets?
If we know in advance what kind of things tend to cause regrets when we’re older,
we should be able to avoid some regrets, to some extent.
So,
one thing I’d like to introduce is “the wisdom of our predecessors.”
In 2017, there was a study titled
“Regrets of 120 men over 60”
based on an internet survey. There is the answer. In response to the question, “What regrets did you have about your life in your 40s?”
The most common answer was…
“Lack of exercise.”
Indeed.

Maybe it was because only after damaging health
did they realize the importance of exercising,
perhaps that’s what it means.
In today’s world,
going outside to exercise is something to be wary of,
but it’s important to stay active indoors as well.
I, too, hardly go outside anymore,
and when it comes to exercise,
I mainly think of strength training,
And in the same survey,
there was another question prepared.
“Which parts of the body should have been maintained since the 40s?”
That question.
What do you think was the most common answer?
“When you age, your legs and back weaken, and you’ll have trouble.”
Some may think so,
but actually…
“Teeth.”
That’s right.
People regret most that they didn’t maintain their teeth.
(Reference: PRESIDENT Online

When young, most people don’t even think
“my teeth will disappear.”
I myself don’t usually think about it.
That’s why maintenance tends to be neglected,
a part that is easy to overlook.
And many people, when they can no longer enjoy meals with their own teeth,
realize its importance.

Teeth brushing and infectious diseases
===================
And there’s more,
“If you don’t maintain your teeth, you’re more prone to illnesses.”
That’s the idea as well.
“If you don’t brush properly, you might get sick.”
This is the claim.
You may think, “Huh?”
When you’re sick, you don’t usually think,
“It’s because my teeth weren’t clean.”
However, in the article previously introduced
in PRESIDENT Online
another article says
this sentence:
***********************
People who regularly visit the dentist are
less likely to contract infections.
The mouth is a place where bacteria reservoirs thrive,
and bacteria multiply.
If you skip brushing for a whole day,
the amount of bacteria in the mouth can increase by about ten thousand times.

***********************
The mouth harbors bacteria and tends to foster their growth more than you’d expect.
Because bacteria are invisible, they’re scary.
And since bacteria tend to proliferate, neglecting tooth maintenance can lead to
for example, easier influenza infection.
↓
***********************
The more people brush their teeth,
the lower the influenza infection rate,
as shown in studies in the United States, etc.

***********************
In this way
there seems to be a correlation between
influenza infection and dental care,
so it’s something to be careful about.
Speaking of infections
“Does dental care have an effect on new coronavirus infections?”
That is a concern, but
unfortunately, the effect is not known.
However, even if the COVID-19 effect is unknown,
maintaining your teeth from daily life
will certainly reduce life regrets.
Because of the coronavirus,
you might feel reluctant to visit the dentist now,
but consider this an opportunity
to start by washing your hands more often,
and carefully brushing your teeth,
and begin with small steps you can take.
===================
Well, Shimoyama,
do you not regret anything?
===================
By the way, changing the subject
When we talk about regrets, in stock trading
there are many who regret as well.
“If only I’d bought it during the crash,”
or,
“If I’d waited to take profits then,”
or
“Aren’t you muttering about it all the time?”
People ask, “So, do you not regret anything, Shimoyama?”
but in trading, I don’t.
I approach it with the attitude that as long as overall profits are proper,
that’s enough.
I don’t dwell on thoughts like,
“I could have earned more if I’d bought here.”There’s no point in lamenting that.
If you were to say that, there’d be no end to it.
Through stock trading,
that kind of mindset has naturally become
part of my daily life, and there aren’t many regrets in life.
Well, I wasn’t very driven by material desires to begin with,
and I don’t chase much.
Now, due to the COVID-19 pandemic,
many people are suffering.
Some had to close shops,
stop production lines,
they have no customers,
and in such circumstances, some rushed into trading hoping for quick profits.
But, in such an urgent situation and with unstable emotions,
trading will not yield profits
and will instead deplete your funds.
What remains will be losses and regrets.
There may be times when you can win big,
but in the end your capital will be wiped out,
which is sadly inevitable.
Starting stock trading is
a wonderful choice.
However, avoid making reckless gambling-like trades,
and avoid getting excited about every single trade,
otherwise there will be no future.
The more you chase profits, the more you lose capital—
that’s how the market works.
These things are often not understood until you actually lose money, but…
in any case, please be careful to avoid any major regrets.
