U.S. and Japanese stocks fall sharply amid the COVID-19 pandemic
We compare Japanese stocks vs. U.S. stocks, by individual company. By comparing stock of Japanese superior, well-known companies with stocks in the same industry in the United States, we hope you will think, “If I’m investing in the same kind of industry, wouldn’t U.S. stocks be better?”
Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, global stock prices plummeted. Driven by panic selling by investors, U.S. stock prices fell more than Japan’s, with declines exceeding those of the 2008 Lehman shock that destabilized the world economy. The Nikkei Stock Average’s decline from the start of the year exceeded 25%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s decline exceeded 35%, indicating a greater impact on U.S. stock prices. Therefore, in this article we examine how much the declines were in this short period and the rebound状況, comparing the movements of stocks in the same industries in Japan and the United States.
