Markets with small price movement can also be profitable
Hello to all readers. I am Masami Uchida, an economic program announcer and writer. Through broadcasts and interviews, I plan to share little anecdotes I’ve heard from people involved.
Now the filing season for tax returns has come again. As a freelancer, I’m confronting a year's worth of receipts. It goes without saying that FX gains and losses must be reported, but in 2019 in particular, I heard from an FX company that “the annual fluctuation range of the dollar-yen was around 8 yen, so even if you carried a loss temporarily, it often recovered; as a result, more traders posted gains than in previous years.” If that’s true, then more people are reporting profits!
When you watch charts daily, it’s easy to chase trends, but I was reminded anew that small price movements can have these kinds of effects as well.
