The goal achievement rate doubles with a starting dash.
Hello, this is Shimoyama.
News related to Yoshimoto Kogyo as well
is no longer reported every day as before,
but now, I would like to write what I feel through this series of reports.
First, I think
“Things look completely different depending on the perspective you view them from.”
There are various positions:
the position of the comedian, the position of the staff member,
the position of the president, the position of the chairman,
and so on.
Even among comedians
there are veteran ones, younger ones,
and so on, with various positions.
And, depending on each position
what is seen differs completely.
Especially from the top view to the bottom view, they differ greatly,
and for comedians who are suffering
and hold grievances against the company,
the impression of the company would not be good,
and it would be natural to think, “Top, change!”.
However, if the top changes,
it does not mean that everything will be solved.
Handling after the top changes is also difficult,
and depending on who becomes the next top,
the situation might even worsen, perhaps.
I’ve been rereading the manga
“Records of the Grand Historian (Hokai Mitsuteru著, Shogakukan Bunko)”
and there is a story in volume 2.
In order to control the flooding of the Yellow River, the village would
hold a ceremony in which a beautiful village girl was placed in a palanquin
and offered to the god of the Yellow River as a bride,
a custom to perform. And every time of this festival
the villagers were taxed heavily.
As a result, the villagers became very exhausted.
Hearing this, a bureaucrat comes to see the festival.
And he says, “Show me this bride.”
He faces the girl who will be sacrificed and the villagers.
The bureaucrat says, “She is not beautiful.” He calls the person in charge.
Then, to the person in charge,
he says,“Tell the god of the Yellow River that we will send a more beautiful girl, so wait.”
and
he pushes the person in charge into the river.
Naturally, that person in charge never returns.
Then he also tells the disciple of the person in charge
“You, too, go see.”
and throws him into the river again.
And then he plunges festival participants
one after another into the river.
In the end, the custom surrounding the god of the Yellow River disappears,
but afterward, under bureaucratic leadership that has no sentiment at all,
large-scale construction begins to draw 12 irrigation channels from the Yellow River, and the villagers are drafted into the project.
When the top is gone,
it does not mean that everything goes smoothly...
a story that leads to that, but
in Yoshimoto’s case too,
for example, if the top changes,
the next leader might construct a rigid contract system,
and
new problems could arise again.
For example, a comedian who cannot be contracted may appear,
or even if contracted, the compensation may not be worth it
and there could be no opportunities to perform on stage.
New comedians might surface.
=======================
Your starting dash can change your goal achievement rate by twofold.
=======================
Perhaps you yourself are living days
praying for a boss to change,
for the president to change. to change.
But even if the top changes, your problems
will not be fundamentally solved.
The fundamental solution is, ultimately
that you change yourself.
Of course, as you know well,
changing is not easy.
Surely you have tried to change before
and failed many times.
You probably have set goals with great enthusiasm
and given up halfway through.
But, if you become aware of even small things,
you can achieve your goals, and the probability that you can change
will rise rapidly.
So, what exactly should you be mindful of?
From here, I will introduce some tips.
Think about it:
When trying to accomplish something,
what moment requires the most energy?
That is the start.
You may have heard that a plane uses the most energy during takeoff;
and similarly
when starting something,
the most energy is consumed.
For example, if the goal distance is 10, the point from starting at 0 to about 2 is the most painful period.
If you can overcome the start,
the rest becomes quite easy,
almost like autopilot.
We will illustrate how crucial the start dash is with a concrete experiment.
An experiment conducted at a car wash involving a stamp campaign.
=======================
When eight stamps are collected,
the car wash is free once.
However, at the same car wash,
a different group of customers was given a slightly different stamp card.
To get a free car wash,
it was necessary to collect ten stamps, not eight.
However, the card included
a “start dash.”
When receiving the card,
two stamps were already stamped.
Both customers’ goal is the same.
Eight washes for one free.
However, the psychology is different.
One has already progressed 20% to the goal.
But
the other must start from zero.
Months later,
the customer who received the stamp card for eight has only reached 19% free car washes.
On the other hand, 34% of those who got the Start Dash have collected all stamps (and they did it faster).

=======================
Even if you do exactly the same thing, having a Start Dash,
or simply believing that there is a Start Dash
can nearly double the achievement rate
as this experiment shows.
If there is something you want to accomplish,
whether you can create a Start Dash
is key to whether you reach your goal.
Of course, a Start Dash
won’t decide everything, but it is
undoubtedly a very significant factor.
So, if you have a goal you want to achieve by changing,
try to be mindful of a Start Dash.
If you start by dragging your feet,
the likelihood of giving up skyrockets.
Well then, today as well,
thank you for watching until the end.
