Facebook's Libra Cryptocurrency
Facebook is the world's largest social network service, headquartered in California, USA. It has about 2.7 billion monthly users. To put that in perspective, Twitter has 360 million and Instagram has 1 billion users.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, has long stated that he wants to confirm what blockchain, the technology underlying cryptocurrency (digital assets), is and whether it is a technology that can benefit society. In June 2019, Facebook released a white paper (specification) on Libra, which became a global topic.
In July of the following year, a hearing was held in the U.S. Congress, where David Marcus, CEO of Facebook's subsidiary Calibra, faced tough questions from lawmakers. Libra, Facebook's own cryptocurrency, has had such a significant global impact.
