You can evaluate EAs by looking at the reports
From the previous explanations, you can now perform backtesting. After backtesting finishes, of course you need to evaluate the EA, but when you look at the report where the backtest results are shown, there are many numbers listed and some readers may feel puzzled about how to read them. Therefore this time I would like to explain “How to read an EA backtest report.”
Figure ① is an actual backtest report. From this report you can see everything: which EA, for what period, which currency pairs and timeframes, and what parameter settings were used to run it. The upper part of the report should be self-explanatory. What matters for evaluating the EA’s performance lies below. This is where the performance-related details begin. There are many items, but I will pick out and explain those that are particularly important for evaluation. The items I pick are the sections enclosed in red frames in Figure ①. Let’s examine them in order.
