Trump: "Truth API" 16 million yen monthly information gap—why isn’t it a topic in Japan?
“Receive the president's posts a few milliseconds before other investors”—what would you think if you heard there are companies paying 16 million yen per month for this?
Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), which operates President Trump's social media platform Truth Social, started its “Truth API” on August 1.
It is a service that delivers posts from influential accounts in a real-time, machine-friendly format.
The fee is $60,000 to $100,000 per month. It may seem expensive, but the story changes if the information can move the market.

- ?Why is this an “investment issue” overseas?
- ?In Japan, will it end as a “scandal”?
- ?Information moves before the charts do
- ?The fact that there are companies paying 16 million yen per month
?Why is this an “investment issue” overseas?
Trump’s posts include policy announcements on duties and diplomacy that can move markets. That is why there is a price on the ability to receive information “faster than anyone else.”
In reality, more than 10 companies have contracts in the United States already. There have been requests for investigation by Democratic lawmakers to the SEC, and on August 12 The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation filed a lawsuit.

The issue is not merely “Mr. Trump’s new money-making venture.” It is a question of whether the president’s communications, the financial markets, and private companies’ interests are too closely intertwined.
Furthermore, it has been reported that Trump himself owns about 41% of TMTG. In other words, a company handling information that could move the market and the president’s own financial interests are not independent.
That’s why this is a major controversy abroad.

?In Japan, will it end as a “scandal”?
However, in Japan, it tends to be consumed as news that “Trump has started another business.”
But what matters to investors is not Trump’s business itself.
Information has a price, and speed has a price. That is the essence of Truth API.
Receiving information 1 second earlier, or 100 milliseconds earlier, and having algorithms place orders. The world in which humans read news and then think is inherently a different game.

For Japanese individual investors, “16 million yen per month? Who would buy that?” might be the reaction. But the fact that more than 10 companies are buying implies thatthe speed of information has economic valueis what it means.
In Japan, this news may not spread widely because many people still view investing as “buying stocks and waiting for prices to rise,” and the concept that information itself is bought and sold in the market is still distant.

?Information moves before the charts do
In fact, we covered this very “Truth API” about a month ago.
As at that time, this is not simply about Trump’s new business or political scandal. It’s about how much value information has in investing.

Of course, chart analysis is important too. Overbought, oversold, trendlines, support and resistance—charts offer many hints for when to buy or sell.
But what triggers those charts to move?
A large trend emerges or a previous flow suddenly changes. Behind it are “information” such as policy, economic indicators, remarks by key figures, wars, and diplomacy.
In other words, information exists, and as a result the charts move.

?The fact that there are companies paying 16 million yen per month
If you only look at charts, you can see whether prices went up or down. But if you look at the information that created that change, you can approach the cause of the movement.
What Truth API shows is precisely that. There is that much value in information that moves the market. And there are companies that pay 16 million yen per month just to obtain that information a little faster.

This is not about denying chart analysis. Rather, it is about looking at charts with an understanding of the information behind them.
In future trading, this combination may become even more important.
What Truth API is forcing us to confront is not only Trump’s ethical issues. It is the reality of modern financial markets where “getting information quickly” itself becomes a huge business.
For traders, perhaps this is even more important news.
