94.25% of buyers are still in operation — Shōkinryū's "utilization rate" discussion
Recently, I was surprised when I saw the number “operating rate” on the GoJouJian management screen. Shōkinryū has an operating period of 4 months; out of 226 purchases, 213 are still active. The operating rate is 94.25%. Today, I’ll honestly write what this number means and what it does not mean.
Operating rate is the proportion of the number of units purchased that are currently being run in MT5. In Shōkinryū, out of 226 purchases, 213 are active, giving 94.25% operating rate.
This is not a performance metric like win rate or PF (profit factor). There can be unrealized losses even when left running, and a high operating rate does not guarantee profitability. Still, I think this number has another meaning.

Automated trading EAs are meaningful only when kept running. Conversely, reasons for stopping running are somewhat pattern-like. Typical factors include: feeling anxious because unrealized losses look bigger than expected, settings being too complex to understand, or disappointment with results not matching expectations.
I don’t know the exact reason why Shōkinryū shows 94.25%, but there are a few things I’ve kept in mind. Not hiding when unrealized losses look large in certain situations; being able to ask questions immediately at Asahina Lab when something isn’t clear. I think these factors may reduce the tendency to stop operating.
A 94.25% operating rate does not mean “everyone is winning.” Among the 213 active units, there must be accounts waiting for recovery with unrealized losses. Since this is a grid strategy, continued counter-movement can still lead to unrealized losses. What this number shows is whether the system is being used, not whether it is profitable.
- Operating period 4 months, 226 purchases, 213 active. Operating rate 94.25%
- Operating rate is separate from win rate and PF. It’s a measure of “whether it is being used,” not a guarantee of results
- I’ve aimed to convey unrealized losses clearly, simplify settings, and provide a place to ask questions
- There are accounts with unrealized losses even while active; the risks of grid-type strategies have not disappeared
