【Weekly Report】5/18-22|FOMC minutes hawkish stance mixed with PMI; turbulent week with Michigan 44.8 and continued fluctuations; Shoukinryu confirms weekly +98,794 yen
WEEKLY REPORT ■ 2026.05.18 – 05.22
FOMC Minutes Hawkish Mix and PMI Conflicts, Michigan 44.8 and a Week of Turbulence — Shōkinryū Gains Confirmed +98,794 JPY
Developer of Gold (XAUUSD) dedicated EA “Shōkinryū” and “CHAOS_GOLD_LISKOFF_MT5.” After experiencing large losses from discretionary trading, shifted to emotion-free, rule-based automatic trading. A belief in developing an EA robust to 11 years of backtesting.
Gold prices for the week of 5/19–5/23 were marked by a confluence of several important indicators, producing a volatile week. The price traded within roughly $4,460–$4,550 for the entire week, and closed near $4,500 at the weekend.
In the first half of the week, price movement was quiet around $4,500–$4,520. The turning point came with the early Thursday 3:00 AM release of the FOMC minutes, which confirmed a hawkish tilt (4 dissenting votes; inflation uncertainty persists), sending gold down toward about $4,460.
Thereafter a rebound to $4,550. Thursday night PMI flash showed manufacturing at 55.3 (strong beat) while services at 50.9 (slightly below), creating no clear direction, and price fluctuated around $4,540. Despite Michigan Consumer Sentiment index flash at 48.2 being revised down to 44.8 in the final release, inflation concerns from higher oil kept gold near $4,500 by week end.
Key Economic Indicators This Week
This Week's Points: Mixed Strong and Weak Indicators
Manufacturing PMI showed robust expansion, while services and consumer sentiment continued to weaken. The Michigan 44.8 signals that consumers are in a markedly tough situation, which would normally be supportive for gold. However, inflation concerns driven by higher oil dampened the upside, making gold range-bound for the week.
Monday's +41,508 JPY was the week's maximum daily profit. Even after the FOMC minutes caused a sharp drop, the EA remained in the positive for all days, finishing the week with a net gain of +98,794 JPY. The scalping-focused design proved its strength throughout the week.
This week had no realized losses. As gold fell sharply, positions accumulated but recovered with the rebound; in the Michigan drop, some were pulled back. Margin maintenance at 7,003% indicates safe risk management.
