Achieved 70% annual return in EA management in the first year!
Ebina: I’ve seen you post various things on Twitter and host trader meetups with EA traders all over the country. Today I’d like to ask Kin Tuppa Warrior about EA management. First, could you tell us why you started EA management?
Kin Tuppa Warrior (hereafter, Kin)The reason was to have more freedom with my own time. FX history is 4 years; at first I did scalping with discretionary trading. I did reasonably well, but I ended up staring at the monitor for hours on end, entering trades 2 times or 1 time, or sometimes not at all. I thought, this is exhausting and I can’t continue. FX is supposed to be attractive because you can do it quickly without time constraints, but this style felt like labor.
Still, the trading itself was enjoyable, so I kept at it. Around that time I went on my honeymoon overseas, and I wanted to trade during that trip. While researching various methods, I found EA. I’d known about EA for a long time, so I decided to try it during that opportunity.
Ebina: So you started EA during your honeymoon hoping to trade? Great idea and action. Were you decisive or did you research a lot before deciding to start?
KinI studied thoroughly. I read blogs of people publishing EA performance. Some published portfolios with monthly profits of 500,000 to 1,000,000 yen, so I thought I could win with EA too. During the honeymoon I bought a now-very-popular EA on GoGoJbang (note 1) and ran it. But that EA didn’t enter trades as much as I expected, so I found it uninteresting, and after returning home I assembled about five to build a portfolio.
Ebina: So the honeymoon operation convinced you it could work?
KinGoGoJiang EA has forward tests, and I researched blogs of people who actually won, so I already had the image that it could win. Then I confirmed it with real experience. By the way, I started EA management in January 2018 and have been tracking performance in Excel ever since. Since I was recording trades from my discretionary days, I continued the habit.
Ebina: (Looking at an Excel-summary performance table and the profit/loss graph) You keep quite precise records. It doesn’t align with the Twitter persona, there’s a noticeable gap. By the way, how did you perform in 2018?
KinAnnual return was 70%.
Ebina: That’s impressive. The EA purchase cost also seems well paid off.
Ebina: Regarding the portfolio of EA that demonstrates such performance, what criteria do you use to select them?
