"The greatest happiness in life lies in the hobbyization of one's occupation" (Shizuro Honda)
The Japanese forestry scholar, landscaper, and stock investor known as the “Father of Parks” in Japan. He built wealth through an investment based on saving one quarter of his salary, and upon retirement donated all of his wealth—words from a splendid person.
“The greatest happiness in life lies in turning one’s profession into a hobby. Wealth, honor, fine clothes and fine food pale in comparison to the joy of a beloved profession.
The word “hobby” conjures images of a “hobbyist son” or a “fishing hobby”—someone whoplayfully wanders about.
A quick search suggests that it originally originates from Buddhism.
It seems to have meant “the wish to seek the Buddhist path” (dōgyō) and the “joy of enlightenment” obtained through following the Buddhist path.
In what sense did Mr. Shizuro Honda use the word hobby?
If he used it as a Buddhist term...
Does it mean pursuing the fx path to reach a world of “enjoyment” and “delight”?
For someone like me, FX can feel like hard ascetic practice.
Perhaps it will take more time to turn it into a hobby (laugh).
