An unexpected trigger that drew a Tokyo University graduate to FX

What prompted your interest in investing? |

“FX”caught my eye and that was the beginning. |

No, at first it was entirely discretionary trading, back then chasing AUDJPY and USDJPY with the popular“yen carry trade”strategy.
I felt I could win easily at the start. |

Setbacks and turning points at subprime Lehman
|
| There was a significant turning point after that. |
|
|

Yes. It started about six months before the subprime loan issue, and I lost a lot then.
I think nearly half of my funds were gone.
Even during the Lehman shock, I tried selling-focused strategies, but ended up with even larger losses. |

| Rather than giving up, I turned toward learning. |

Beginning of RCI research and its appeal

| Among many indicators, what drew you to RCI? |
|
|
|

|
|
RCI was already a popular indicator at that time.
Among trying various indicators, I felt RCI’s shape changes were interesting and could capture market momentum. From there I began rigorous research. |

| How was it used in the early days? |
|
|

At first I looked at RCI with only one time frame, thinking “this setup can win,” but it didn’t work at all (laughs).
So I incorporated “Multi-Time Frame analysis.” |

MTF analysis and stabilization of methods

| I see. After adopting multi-time frame analysis, how did things change? |

I gained overall market context.
Furthermore, since RCI pairs well with other methods, combining it with moving averages and other indicators helped stabilize trading performance. |
