When you hear about FX automated trading (EA), many people think of it as a dream tool that earns money automatically.

However, please pause here for a moment.

EA is not a万能 nor a holy grail by itself.

Rather, “having too high expectations” is the biggest reason EA management fails.

The fantasy of 0% monthly profit

Promotional phrases like “earn in seconds” or “more than 20% monthly profit!” are common.

In most cases, these capture a temporary peak in performance, like a momentary surge.

Realistically, if you achieve about 2% monthly and 20% annually, you’re already outperforming many famous hedge funds globally.

If you expect too much, you may push lots too aggressively and be forced into a stop-out frequently.

The essence of EA

The essence of EA lies in “simplicity” or “plain conservatism.”

It mechanically repeats trades based on a pre-determined logic without emotion.

This is EA’s greatest strength.

On the other hand, it cannot respond flexibly like discretionary trading.

That’s why, for people who struggle with discretion, adopting EA can be meaningful.

Eliminating mental factors and probabilistically accumulating gains is the appeal of EA management.

Hybrid of discretion and EA is also an option

EA is only one tool in asset management.

If discretion is winning, that’s fine

You can combine discretion and EA for a hybrid approach
