Even if you have unrealized gains, after taking profits, the market moves significantly in the direction of your entry, or despite holding out on taking profits, you end up significantly reducing your unrealized gains, it's maximum stress, right?

Participants in the foreign exchange market and FX can be broadly divided into two patterns: "speculators" and "real demand players."

Speculators refer to investors who trade with the aim of making profits from price movements.

Real demand players are those who engage in foreign exchange transactions out of necessity for economic activities.
This includes companies that convert yen to foreign currency to pay for imports, companies that convert foreign currency earned from exports back to yen, and individuals who exchange currency for overseas travel.

Generally, it is said that speculators account for 80-90% of the market, while the remaining 10-20% consists of real demand transactions. Because speculators overwhelmingly dominate, their movements have a significant impact on currency fluctuations.

Among these speculators, large speculators are investors with massive funds in the market. These large investors have the power to manipulate the market and can exert a greater influence compared to regular investors. This includes central banks (Bank of Japan, Federal Reserve, ECB), banks, hedge funds, and GPIF, which manages pension funds.
GPIF stands forGovernment Pension Investment Fundand its managed assets amount to approximately 132 trillion yen, making it one of the largest in the world.

Since FX is a zero-sum game, as long as it is for speculative purposes, it is a competition for money.

The money lost by someone becomes your profit, and
the money you lose becomes someone else's profit.

How can you win in the FX market, which is on the scale of hundreds of trillions of yen?
The answer is simply to aim for the losses of others.

The losses of others refer to their stop losses.
And if you know where their stop loss is, you can hunt those stop losses.
The "others" are those who are selling when you are buying, and those who are buying when you are selling.
Finding price ranges where stop losses are accumulating and executing opposite trades is called stop hunting.

Strictly speaking, there are two types of stop hunting:
▀ Stop hunting by FX brokers
▁ Stop hunting by large investors

The first type, stop hunting by FX brokers, is carried out by malicious brokers.
Brokers can see their clients' stop loss orders clearly, so they manipulate the rate prices or temporarily widen the spreads to hunt their clients' orders.
Slippage that occurs during economic indicators or sudden market fluctuations is different from stop hunting.
Currently, the number of brokers engaging in malicious stop hunting has decreased, and among major domestic brokers, it is less common due to the high credit risk of being mentioned in reviews.
In the past, there were times when some FX brokers collaborated with hedge funds to manipulate prices, but it seems to have decreased now that financial regulations have tightened.

The second type, stop hunting by large investors, refers to the act of executing opposite trades at locations where a large number of stop losses occur or creating situations where stop losses will occur.

Large stop hunting is not primarily about preying on individual investors, but rather for other reasons.
The reason is that large investors have such a large amount of capital that they cannot enter the market at their desired price unless they are in a market with many trading partners, meaning a liquid price range.

In domestic FX brokers, over-the-counter trading is mainstream, and trades are established directly between individuals and FX brokers without going through an exchange. However, due to the size of their positions, large investors must engage in market trading. For example, even if they want to buy 10 billion yen worth of USD/JPY at 150 yen, if there is no one willing to sell 10 billion yen at 150 yen, the trade cannot be established.
If they place a market order instead of a limit order, they risk buying USD/JPY at high prices from sellers at 151 yen or 152 yen.
Therefore, they intentionally break the resistance line at 150 yen with a large number of sell orders, gather sellers who jump in when the line breaks, and after taking profits on their large sell positions, they hit the market with a large number of buy positions.
As a result, the market rises due to the stop loss buy orders of those who jumped in on the sell side and the new buy orders from the large investors.

In other words, stop hunting is a common tactic used by large investors to ensure sufficient liquidity when entering the market by guiding the market to locations where a large number of stop loss orders are likely to occur or executing opposite trades against those stop loss orders.

Even though there are many large participants, the market is like a big war between two teams of large investors, one buying and one selling. If your team shows any signs of weakness, it quickly turns into a battle for money, easily betraying and switching sides.

So, right after the large investors start moving to target stop losses,
right after the large investors have a showdown and the outcome is decided,
is there any way to follow the large investors like a remora, tracking their footsteps? I have thought about this while trying various approaches.

In stocks, there are trading volumes, order book information, and tick data, but unlike stocks, there is no such information in FX. It is possible to display volume in MT4, but it only shows reference values indicating the number of ticks (the number of times the price has changed) instead of actual volume. FX is traded worldwide and is not limited to specific exchanges like stocks, making it impossible to grasp a perfect overall picture.

Some brokers allow you to view the order book, but it is merely a graph of that broker's clients' trading conditions. It may be somewhat helpful, but it does not relate to the actual trading volume in the market.

The Chicago IMM currency futures position trends allow you to see the position ratios of speculators and banks, which is convenient, but it is updated every Tuesday, so the information can be a bit outdated.

What about currency options barriers...?

After many trials and errors over a long period, I finally found it! Finally discovered the unmistakable footprints of large investors due to their large capital.
Based on that great discovery, I constructed a logic and created an indicator called Large Investor Remora FX!

If you can hold a position in the same direction as the large investors when they start moving, you can follow them closely like a remora.

If the movements of the large investors further involve stop losses, the profits from your positions will grow rapidly, and if you can identify the timing when another large investor counteracts the movements of the first, you can take profits and wait for the next opportunity!

You can combine the signals with other Kotsumekko products to use them for trend judgment, or as a guideline for taking profits!
