R3 and SBI Establish a Joint Venture
SBI Holdings announced on January 30 the signing of a contract to establish a joint venture with the American blockchain company R3, named “SBI R3 Japan Co., Ltd.”
The company is established with a capital of 500 million yen, with profit distribution planned as 60% for SBI and 40% for R3.
The purpose of establishing SBI R3 Japan Co., Ltd. is to promote Corda-related business in Japan, with future plans to spread Corda throughout East Asia.
SBI Group and the Blockchain Sector
The SBI Group has established several joint ventures with blockchain companies, not only with R3 but also with Ripple, an American cryptocurrency company, forming “SBI Ripple Asia.”
The SBI Group is focusing on blockchain businesses, and SBI Ripple Asia announced on October 4, 2018,
a smartphone peer-to-peer payments app MoneyTap, which utilizes the distributed ledger technology of cryptocurrency XRP (Ripple).
