Cryptopia has been hacked again
New Zealand cryptocurrency exchange Cryptopia has been revealed to have suffered another hacking incident.
The second hacking incident was disclosed by blockchain investigation firm Elementus.
According to Elementus's latest report, 1675 ETH (about 19 million yen) were stolen from 17,000 wallets in the second breach.
The report also states, “Assets of thousands of people using Cryptopia wallets are not yet safe. They may still be at risk,” and notes that Cryptopia’s countermeasures are insufficient.

The chronology of the first hacking incident released by Elementus is as follows:
January 13, 8:13 a.m. – Funds began moving from Cryptopia’s two wallets.
January 13, 11:58 p.m. – The core wallet was emptied, funds began moving from the secondary wallet.
January 14, 6:00 a.m. – Cryptopia halted all trading, citing “unscheduled maintenance.”
January 15, 3:00 a.m. – Cryptopia revealed the hacking incident and measures by New Zealand law enforcement.
January 17, 5:58 a.m. – The first wave of funds was exhausted by the hackers.
And this time, the second hacking incident proceeded as follows:
January 28, 6:59 a.m. – Hackers moved again and stole 1,675 ETH (about 19 million yen).
In the second hacking incident, the stolen currency was only Ethereum (ETH), with 1,675 ETH (about 19 million yen) leaked.
