[Amida式: Dominate the Market with Volume Profile] Lesson 9: Session Opening Strategy | Identify the opportunities hidden at the start of the day
Last time, we introduced a strategy based on the AB = CD pattern, rooted in market waves and market psychology.
This time, changing perspective, we will focus on a strategy for “the start of a day,”
that is, the Session Open Strategy.
This strategy may seem simple at first glance, but
it provides a very effective clue for quickly discerning the market direction and the overall mood for the day.
1. What is a session?
In the FX market, there are mainly the following three major sessions:
Asian Session (Tokyo market)24:00 GMT start of trading, ends at 9:00 GMT
European Session (London market)8:00 GMT start, ends at 16:00 GMT
American Session (New York market)13:00 GMT start, ends at 22:00 GMT
Each session is divided by the hours when the major financial markets in the corresponding region are open, and during those times the trading volume concentrates the most.
2. Why is the session open important?
The session open point carries the following meaning for traders:
The direction of the market often starts from here
Since many orders come in at once, market psychology tends to reflect it strongly
It tends to become a short-term support or resistance
3. Trading method using the session open
✅ Basic idea:
When the session begins, and the price initially rises → the open point acts as support.
After the session starts, if the price declines → the open point acts as resistance.
Thus, by observing the direction right after the open and the price reaction, you can identify short-term buy/sell points.
4. A real-world example of session open reaction
The following chart is an example of the New York Open on the 15-minute EUR/USD chart:
After the open, price initially rose, but then fell sharply
As a result, the open point was perceived as support.
When the price came back, there was a renewed downward reaction.
In this way, by watching the price movement right after the open and the subsequent retracement, you can identify rebound points and trade accordingly.
5. How should this strategy be used?
The session open strategy can be used on its own, but I personally use it mainly as a supplementary element (confirmation component) to my main strategy.
In specific price ranges, when the session open aligns with other strategies (Volume Profile, Price Action, etc.), the reliability becomes very high.
In the next lesson, we will broaden the session frame further and cover the “Daily Open Strategy.”
How to identify the start of the day and how to apply it to trading will be explained with examples.
