With the war between Russia and Ukraine continuing, tensions in the Middle East are rising, and concerns are growing that Israel and Iran may enter a full-scale war. On June 13, the Israeli military announced it had attacked over 100 targets, including nuclear-related facilities across Iran, and Prime Minister Netanyahu stated that they had “attacked the core of Iran’s nuclear enrichment program.” Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei warned, “Israel will surely face retaliation.” In response to the attack on Israel, Iran fired ballistic missiles toward Jerusalem and Tel Aviv on the 13th. The risk of broader military conflict in the Middle East has increased. As retaliation escalates, U.S. stocks fell, dropping by as much as $886 from the previous close.
Meanwhile, gold is being bought as a safe asset, with the near-term price reaching $3,468 on the 13th, and closing the week at a record high of $3,452.80.
