During his time at SoftBank, he started an internal venture, later went independent via an MBO. About 15 years ago he encountered FX, obtained a securities license overseas, and has traded and operated with in-house EA development—acting like a hedge fund within his company.

A real hedge fund?! A pro trader who operated with 100 computers |
First, we would like to hear about both of your backgrounds and introductions. First, please share with M. |

After graduating from university, I joined Toshiba as an engineer, and at 25–26 I became independent and started my own company.
Later, in my early 30s, I joined SoftBank. At that time, in an interview, I said, “I want to work on jobs using large capital, so please let me start a company,” and I thought the interview would fail, but I was hired. I still remember being surprised. |

About three months after joining SoftBank, Mr. Son helped him set up a company. There, after four and a half to five years, he carried out an MBO of the SoftBank company, and SoftBank transferred the shares to him, enabling independence. |

The encounter with FX was about 15–16 years ago. A client asked me to create FX software.
That led me to start FX myself, and I delved in deeply!
There was a time when our company had about 100 computers; we even obtained a securities license overseas and did in-house EA development and operation. There was a period when the company had around 100 computers… |

I ran a large number of EAs, so the testing was substantial. I pushed the company’s power up quite a bit. |
It felt like an environment of a hedge fund. Like M, to operate trades at this level as a company is rare to see in Japan. Indeed, you’ve traded as a financial professional. |
I started FX after that widely publicized news, and now I own a building full of apartments |
Next, please welcome Keiji, known as Dr.EA. When you say Dr.EA, many developers may have heard that name, right?
Could we hear Keiji’s career history? |

Yes, the trigger to start investing was the 2007 news “Housewife FX profits evading taxes of 400 million yen.” Seeing this, I thought, “FX can be profitable,” and I became hooked. |

There were some failures along the way, but I ran EAs purchased from GogoJungle, did automated trading of binary options, mined cryptocurrencies, and engaged in stocks and mutual funds to grow profits. Ultimately I even bought a whole apartment building, and that’s where I am today. |
Wow, that’s truly amazing! There’s a saying that “the investor’s final destination is real estate,” and Keiji has surely secured real estate as well, which is truly remarkable. |
Failures that even pros faced: “Slow and steady then blow up” and “Swiss Shock.” |
In the next episode, we’ll discuss the turning points of failures and successes, but at the end of Episode 1 we’d like to hear even a portion of a failure story... May we start by hearing from M?
M, could you begin? |

As for failures, in the early days I really only faced failures. I really took a beating... |
| M |
I learned that it’s truly hard to create an EA that wins long-term. In one month, funds could triple or quadruple, and you’d be happy, but the next day all the funds could be gone... |
| That shows how deeply you were involved. |
| What about Keiji’s failure stories? |
| Keiji |
In the first year or so after starting FX, I ran an EA that accumulated long positions on EUR/CHF. And, as you know, I was hit hard by the 2015 Swiss Shock… |
| Japanese brokers also disappeared, right? It was a huge impact… |
It was surprising that the two FX living dictionaries had such failure stories.
In the next episode, please drill down on the failures and tell us how they turned into turning points. Thank you very much for today! |
