Something unexpected happens
I am a candlestick FX trader.
Last week there was an earthquake in Thailand and Myanmar, right?
Actually, I happened to be staying in Thailand,
and when the earthquake occurred, I was on a high floor of a condominium,
so I could feel the shaking quite a lot.
At first, I didn’t think of it as an earthquake,
wondering if it was strong winds or if something happened to the condo itself,
and such thoughts crossed my mind, but
when I quickly checked S*S, I realized it was an earthquake.
I never imagined I would experience an earthquake in Thailand,
and I was surprised.
After that, everyone was told to evacuate outside the condo,
and we waited outside for several hours.
Most Thai people had never experienced an earthquake before,
and many looked quite shocked.
Then, those who lived in the condo stayed at nearby hotels for a while,
which caused many hotels to become fully booked.
Could a hotel like this even be full?
That’s how it was.
I also stayed for two nights at a nearby low-rise hotel.
Since then, there have been no major aftershocks so far,
and I’ve returned to my daily life,
but it made me realize anew that the world is capable of things we can’t even imagine.
Now, things that we can’t imagine happening also happen in the market.
Last week, U.S. stocks hit a floor, and many thought they would rise sharply from here,
but instead there was another large drop,
dashing many people’s hopes.
Many must have been sprayed with cold water.
And today’s Japanese stock market also opened sharply lower at the start.
When you’ve traded in markets for many years, unexpected things happen often.
We often try to forecast the market, but
many times we’re wrong.
Similarly, the market tends not to move exactly like the past,
and more often it doesn’t move as before.
If you think, “Because it moved like this in the past,
it will move the same this time,”
you’ll often be blindsided.
Therefore, I personally try not to cling too much to past markets and
focus on what is happening “now.”
There was a period when I was diligently backtesting,
but
while it helps as a psychological stabilizer when you lose,
trading while expecting results exactly like the backtest often blinds you again.
Rather than clinging to past results,
focus on “what is happening now,”
and what you should do,
and respond flexibly to it,
which often leads to better results in the market.
And the logic that systematizes that is the five logics I’m currently offering.

when you trade,
focus on “now,” discard your own biases,
listen to the voices of current market participants,
and move in the same direction as them,
to continuously pursue profits.
