MMA Weekly Report Nikkei stock average By Raymond Merriman Mar.10 2025
1. Review
The Nikkei Average ended the week at 36,887, down 268 points from the previous week. The week's high was 37,874 on Thursday the 6th, and the week's low was 36,813 on Friday the 7th. The week's range moved between the weekly support line and the weekly resistance line, so sentiment was neutral. However, since the closing price for the week fell below the Weekly Trend Indicator Point (TIP) for five consecutive weeks, the underlying trend remains in a “downtrend” state.
2. Cycles
As explained in my book, Forecast 2025, the Nikkei Average has a long-term market cycle of 17 years. Its starting point was 6,994 on October 28, 2008. This cycle is divided into two halves by an 8.33-year cycle, with the first half ending at the “double bottom” of 14,864 on June 24, 2016 and 14,865 on February 12 of the same year. The second half (the second 8.33-year cycle) then began. And 2024 was the 16th year of the 17-year cycle.
