Traders should not be bound by tools! A method to earn freely with just one iPad
【No need for 3-4 displays. Reasons one iPad is enough】
Good evening, I’m Neko-kai from Trade Idea Lab. Today I’ll talk about the trading environment. It’s surprising how many people misunderstand this. “As a trader, you should line up three or four displays in a dazzling desk setup!”
...No, you don’t need that. In fact, better to avoid it.
I used to think that too. About 20 years ago, I spent a fortune setting up six screens and bragging about it.
“Behold! This is a professional trader’s environment!”
, because I was a stock trader, so it couldn’t be helped.
Oh, I wish I could tell my past self that.Spending money on the trading environment doesn’t change trading results even by a millimeter.
A trader’s job isn’t to monitor, it’s to wait.
First, what is the reason you need 3-4 screens?
They say it’s to monitor charts, right?
But think about it here.
Is there really a need to monitor charts?
Our job as traders is to wait.
Because everything is decided by “preparation.”
What I do first is recognize the environment of 22 currency pairs. It only takes 15 seconds.
You might want to say, “Look at 22 currency pairs in 15 seconds? Are you a mind reader?”
But basically, you extract only the currencies you should trade.
“Today I’ll trade only these two currencies.”
Once that’s decided, 80% of trading is done.
Then you craft trading ideas for those two currencies.
That also takes 15 minutes is more than enough.
Finally, set alerts and leave it be.
Yes, then you just “wait.”
Some of you might think, “But I’ll be bored while waiting.”
But consider this: professional work often involves waiting.
For example, do professional photographers constantly press the shutter?
They hold the camera and wait for the perfect moment.
Fishermen are the same. If you keep casting nets into the sea, you’ll run out of energy.
You cast bait and wait.
Trading is the same. When the alert sounds, you move.
That’s all there is to it.
Reasons why one iPad is enough
“But can you view 22 currencies on an iPad?” you might wonder.
To conclude:
Yes, you can. In fact, that’s plenty.
In fact, I trade on a single iPad. I don’t even need a desktop..
If a desktop PC were essential for trading, would you carry a PC when you go out?
Even if you narrow the iPad screen down to one, the currencies you need to monitor are at most 1-2 currencies, so one screen is enough.
“Wait, don’t I need to monitor all currencies?”
There’s no need to monitor everything.
The psychology of “that currency or this currency might be a chance” is the biggest enemy.
Trading starts with discarding the scenes you don’t need to trade.
“If you become bound by your trading environment, you become bound in life.”
Isn’t the purpose of trading to become free?
Yet you line up 3-4 displays, are bound at home, and watch charts all day…
Is that the freedom you sought?
The root of the “multi-screen addiction”
Let’s return to the main point.
Why do people crave 3-4 displays?
Let’s be honest.
Because they look cool.
When you watch movies or YouTube tours of trading rooms,
you think, “Wow, six displays, that’s professional!”
I understand that feeling.
20 years ago I was infected by that very thing.
But I realized something.
“Multi-screen displays were self-satisfaction.”
It was all about ego and the need for approval.
Trading is about reproducibility. We should aim for an environment that anyone can use, and if you say you can’t do it unless you have six screens,
then reproducibility is zero from that moment.
Even if you try to trade while traveling, you can’t carry six-screen displays with you.
So, does that mean you can’t trade while traveling?
But what about an iPad?
You can trade on a hotel bed or in a cafe.
This is what I was seeking.
Harry Banks also trades with one screen
Do you know Harry Banks from “The Trader’s Grand Adventure”?
He also trades with just one screen.
That is the trader’s truth.
In the story, he’s depicted as a trader who achieves results using only simple tools.
The strongest traders are simple.
The urge to line up everything and gaze at it increases the risk of being overwhelmed by information noise.
Summary
That’s my conclusion.
If right now you’re pondering, “Should I buy 3-4 displays?” please reconsider.
Rather, it’s better to train focusing on a single screen.
If someone insists that multi-screen is essential, they may be digitally addicted and uneasy unless they’re looking at charts. You might need a digital detox. Or they could be a flashy trading instructor or someone selling information products who can’t function without multi-screen setups.
Traders should not be bound by tools or by environments.
You became a trader to seek freedom, right?
Now, start with just one iPad.
That is real, truly free trading.
Well then, until next time!
