Good work today! Let’s go ahead and scalp USD/JPY again tonight!
First, the overview for Tokyo time today.
Currently USD/JPY is around 150 yen 10 sen. This morning it started around 151 yen 50 sen, but during Tokyo time, stronger-than-expected Tokyo CPI raised expectations of a BoJ rate hike, causing a rapid drop with a downside move approaching 2 yen.
Meanwhile, in the United States, expectations of a December rate cut are dominant, and it seems more yen buying and dollar selling in light of the U.S.-Japan interest rate differential.
From the morning level, it looks like a drop of about 1 yen 40 sen will shift to the overseas session.
Today is not a public holiday for US Black Friday, but financial markets will operate on shortened hours. In effect, the US is on a long weekend.
Now, here are tonight’s USD/JPY scalping points.
● Movements around 17:00 London market open
● Movements around 23:00 New York market open (Dow opens at 23:30)
● No notable US indicators to watch
● Be cautious of sudden moves due to lower liquidity (Black Friday)
● Watch headlines related to the Trump administration
Tonight’s 1-minute scalping, with the US on shortened trading due to Black Friday, is expected to capture profits on moves around the London market open. If market activity remains light today as well, I will not push it and will close early. Since the US is not a full-fledged holiday, I will monitor moves around the New York open as a stance, but not overly active.
Also, for the short-only 15-minute scalp, after such a drop during Tokyo time, there doesn’t seem to be much downside room, but I will push if there is a rebound. If priced above the mid-150s, I will look to sell.
